I don’t know what Simpson had to apologize for, to be honest. Beardsley called the police in order not to be held accountable for the disappearance of the goods.

I talked to police officers, I volunteered immediately to come back, show them what was taken and to tell them what took place before anybody talked to the police, I was the first guy that volunteered to do it and I heard on the tapes that they thought I was stupid for doing it.

                                                                                                     From O.J. Simpson: final statement.

‘A digital recorder, which had been secretly placed in the room, picked up the employee saying: "This is great … California can't get him … now we'll be able to.’

Question number 98: Do you think the police had an ulterior motive for arresting O.J. Simpson in this case? Answer: No.
(I found the questionnaire on the internet. I assume the answers are given by someone who passed the selection.)

You should realize that at that moment the police had no evidence of crime at all. They only had Simpson’s statement and he hadn’t confessed to any crime. This demonstrates that framing people is routine for those policemen. They knew already that they could force people to confess to serious crimes with what they had got.

Later Beardsley withdrew the complaint, but the prosecution just didn’t accept that. In the course of the following days the accusations got worse and worse. The four ‘accomplices’ where bought with plea bargains and Thomas Riccio with immunity. The only one who wasn‘t bought was Clarence Stewart.
