He had no hatred for Gilbert in spite of the fact that this guy had already played numerous filthy tricks on him. It’s one of the things, I suppose, that make him a bit hard to believe for his enemies: the fact that he is far too good for this world.
The other men he brought with him were his friend Clarence Stewart and four
other guys: Walter Alexander, Charles Cashmore, Charles Ehrlich and Michael McClinton.

The two “victims” were memorabilia dealers Bruce Fromong and Alfred Beardsley.
It seems everything went according to plan except that in the end they claimed things had been taken that didn’t belong to Simpson:
